Social media marketing for small
business, minus the weekly scramble.
Social media marketing for small business shouldn’t mean designing posts at 10pm. Humming Web gives you a designer who plans, creates and schedules your Facebook and Instagram posts each month. You approve each one in the Client Portal, and plans start at $99/month including GST.
- Original posts by your own designer
- Captions and hashtags written for you
- A content calendar every month
- You approve every post
- Posted to Facebook and Instagram

Why social media for small
business owners keeps slipping.
Most small business owners know they should post. The problem is everything else competing for the same hour.
- 01
You post in bursts, then go quiet.
Three posts in a good week, nothing for a month when work gets busy. Customers who check your page see the gap and wonder if you’re still trading.
- 02
Your graphics look like everyone else’s.
Free templates are quick, but the business across the road uses the same ones. Your feed ends up looking generic rather than yours.
- 03
You stare at a blank caption box.
Knowing your trade inside out doesn’t make it easy to decide what to say on Tuesday. So the post waits, and then it doesn’t happen.
- 04
Agency retainers don’t fit a small budget.
Big monthly retainers make sense for big brands. For a café, salon or two-person trade business, they’re hard to justify.
Each of these has the same fix: someone else does the making and posting, and you keep the final say.
How much time and money social
media takes a small business.
There are three realistic ways to run your pages. Each one costs either money or your hours, so here’s who does what under each.
Notice the one row that never changes: replies. Business.gov.au recommends you check your channels at least once a day and respond to comments and messages, and that stays with you whichever option you pick. What a plan removes is the planning, design and posting.
| Task or cost | Do it yourself | Freelancer | Humming Web plan |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it costs each month | Design and scheduling tools, plus your time | Their own rates | $99, $149 or $199, GST incl. |
| Planning the month | You | The freelancer, with your input | Your designer builds the calendar |
| Designing posts | You, usually from templates | The freelancer; quality varies | Your designer, from scratch |
| Captions and hashtags | You | Usually the freelancer | Written for every post |
| Scheduling and posting | You | Usually the freelancer | We schedule once you approve |
| Replying to customers | You, at least daily | Sometimes, at extra cost | You, at least daily |
| What’s left on your plate | Every task above | Briefing, checking work, replies | Approving posts and replies |
What every small business
plan includes.
Three monthly plans, priced by post count. Each one does the same job well.
A sample weekly posting plan
for a small business.
Three planned posts a week keeps a small business visible without flooding anyone’s feed. Here’s how that might look for a local pet groomer on a 12-post plan.
Each post does one of three jobs: help (answers to questions customers already ask you), proof (your real work, team and premises) or an offer (a reason to book or buy this week). Adding one short video a fortnight? Our AI video reels start at 2 a month from $49, made from a written brief.
| Day | Format | Post | Who |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mon | Feed post | Tip: how often to brush a double-coated dog | Designed by us |
| Tue | Daily check | Reply to comments and booking messages | You |
| Wed | Carousel | Before and after: three dogs from last week | Designed by us, your photos |
| Thu | Daily check | Reply to comments and booking messages | You |
| Fri | Offer graphic | Two weekend spots left for a nail trim and wash | Designed by us |
| Sat | Optional | Share Friday’s post to Stories | You, one tap |
| Sun | Rest | Nothing scheduled | Quick check if you like |

Affordable social media management
for small business.
Three monthly plans, priced by post count. Each includes original designs, captions, a content calendar, your approval and Facebook and Instagram posting.
Cheap or affordable? Very low prices often rely on recycled templates or AI-generated designs. Ours stay low because each plan does one job well: a dedicated designer makes your posts, and we leave out the extras that push agency fees up. Not included: replying to comments and messages, paid ads and video reels. They can be added: AI video from $49 a month, Meta ads at a flat $100 a week + GST. New plans carry a 10-day money-back guarantee on your first batch. Full plan details are on our done-for-you social media posting page, and every price we publish is on Meta ads and social media pricing.
| Plan | Price, GST incl. | Posts | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $99 a month | 8 a month, roughly 2 a week | Getting a quiet page back to a steady rhythm |
| Growth | $149 a month | 12 a month, roughly 3 a week | The sample week above; our most popular plan |
| Scale | $199 a month | 16 a month, roughly 4 a week | Frequent offers or new stock, with priority turnaround |
Which platforms a small
business should be on.
Fewer channels done well beat many done badly. Business.gov.au suggests one or two channels you can manage properly, picked by where your customers spend time.
Our plans post to both Facebook and Instagram from one calendar, so you don’t have to choose. If your customers are mostly on LinkedIn or TikTok, tell us on the call and we’ll say honestly whether we’re the right fit. Posts must also follow consumer law: the ACCC notes businesses are responsible for comments others make on their pages, so remove false or misleading ones.
- FacebookSuits local and community-based businesses whose customers are adults: trades, clinics, gyms, cafés and services. Good for opening hours, events and reviews.
- InstagramSuits businesses with something visual to show: food, beauty, fashion, homes and finished work. Strong for before and after images and short video.
Adding ads, extra formats or search
when posting isn’t enough.
Organic posts mostly reach people who already follow you. To find new customers, small businesses usually add one paid or search channel next.
- 01
Meta ads on a small budget
A flat $100 a week + GST for Meta ads management, with ad spend paid to Meta from around $20 a day. For one Strathfield client, CDR Report Help, a $20 a day budget brought 48 leads at $11.91 each in 30 days. That’s their result, not a promise.
- 02
Formats beyond your plan
Launching something or running a sale? Our social media content creation page lists one-off carousels, Stories and event graphics, quoted per job.
- 03
Showing up on Google
Social keeps existing customers warm; search catches people looking for you today. Our small business SEO covers Google, and our guide on Google Ads or Meta ads helps you pick a paid channel.

What our clients say
“Our social media went from an afterthought to our strongest brand asset. Content is original, on-brand, and actually looks professional. Engagement tripled in two months. Completely hands-off for us — they send the calendar, we approve it, done.”
“At $99/month I was sceptical. It seemed too cheap to be quality. I was completely wrong. The content looks better than what bigger agencies quoted us three times the price for. No templates, no stock photos — everything is made for our brand.”
“We always knew our socials needed work but never had the time. Now it's completely hands-off. Monthly calendar, we approve, it goes live. Clear reporting. Completely stress-free and the content quality is excellent.”
“The no lock-in thing was what got me to give it a try. Three months later I'm not going anywhere. Content is consistently on-brand, engagement is up, and it's genuinely one less thing I have to think about. Worth every cent.”
“We tried doing it ourselves for years. The content from Humming Web is miles ahead — professional, creative, and actually gets engagement. Setup was painless and they were posting within a week. No contract, no setup fee. Simple.”
Small business social media questions.
How often should a small business post on social media?
A small business should post often enough to look active, which for most means two to four planned posts every week, every week. Business.gov.au puts the ideal at 3 to 5 a week. Keeping the rhythm steady matters more than hitting a high number once.
Is social media marketing worth it for a small business?
Yes, if your customers check your page before they buy, book or call, which is common for local services, hospitality and retail. It's less worth it when buyers never look at social, or when posts would stop after a month.
How much should a small business spend on social media?
A small business that posts itself pays for design and scheduling tools plus its own time; freelancers set their own rates. Our done-for-you plans are $99, $149 or $199 a month including GST. Paid ads are a separate budget you control.
Is cheap social media management any good?
The best low-cost option is one that uses a real designer, lets you approve each post and doesn't tie you to a long term. Avoid services that recycle templates across clients or post without asking you first, because your feed is often the first impression customers get.
Can I run my small business social media myself?
Yes. Plenty of owners do, using free design tools and a scheduler. It works if you can protect the time to plan, design and write each week. It tends to slip in the weeks the business is busiest.
Which social media platform is best for a small business?
The best platform for a small business is the one its customers already use, that suits its product and that it can keep up. For most local businesses that's Facebook, Instagram or both. Business.gov.au recommends starting with one or two channels.
What should a small business post about?
A small business should post a mix of helpful tips, proof of its real work and clear offers. Tips answer what customers already ask, proof shows your team, jobs or products, and offers give people a reason to act now. Seasonal and holiday posts fill the gaps.
How much of my time will social media still take?
With a done-for-you plan, your part shrinks to approving posts each month and replying to customers. Approval happens in the client portal, post by post. Replies stay with you because they are often bookings, quotes or complaints only you can answer.
Do I need lots of followers before social media helps?
No. For a small business, your page often works as a trust check: people find you on Google or by word of mouth, then look at your recent posts. An active, professional feed does that job whether you have 200 followers or 20,000.
When should a small business start paying for Facebook ads?
Start paying for Facebook ads once your page looks active and you have a clear offer to promote, such as a booking, quote or product. Ads send strangers to your page, so a quiet feed wastes the spend. A modest daily budget is enough to test.
Get your evenings back,
keep your feed busy.
Tell us about your business and we’ll suggest how often to post and which plan fits your budget. If you go ahead, your first calendar is usually ready in about 5 business days.
- 8, 12 or 16 original posts a month
- Captions, calendar and posting handled
- You approve every post
- No lock-in contract
